Online ARTIC:  TIC Measurement Tool AND Implementation Booster

Written by John Engel, MA | November 17, 2020

Successfully implementing trauma-informed care (TIC) is challenging. Successfully measuring TIC is equally challenging. But with the Online ARTIC you can do both.

The ARTIC (Attitudes Related to Trauma-Informed Care) Scale is one of the most widely-used measures of trauma-informed care. Its psychometric validity has been confirmed by studies published in School Mental Health and Psychological Trauma. In addition, the Online ARTIC—released in June 2019—offers cutting-edge TIC measurement combined with resources to boost your TIC implementation efforts.

TIC Assessment

Leaders can use the Online ARTIC to seamlessly collect baseline data on current staff attitudes toward TIC, for pre-post assessment of TIC interventions and to monitor TIC progress over a 3-year period. Data collection is easier because employees complete the survey using a smart phone, tablet, or computer. Organizational dashboard results include overall ARTIC scores as well as scores for 7 subscales, job roles, years of service, and an optional breakout for department/program/site comparison.

TIC Implementation

The organizational dashboard also includes best practice recommendations for improving TIC implementation in 5 key domains, for each of the 7 subscales. Recommendation domains include: Leadership and Communication, Hiring and Orientation, Training, Supervision and Work Teams. Combined, the dashboard results and recommendations offer leaders greater confidence when making data-driven decisions about onboarding, guiding and sustaining TIC interventions, and next steps.

Additionally, Online ARTIC includes a confidential dashboard of results and implementation resources for individual staff members. Resources include detailed explanations and examples for each score, tips to enhance understanding and practice, and curated video links to deepen understanding and practice. These dashboard results and resources empower staff to be full participants in TIC initiatives. By identifying high and low subscale scores, reviewing the included resources, then discussing with a supervisor or TIC implementation coach, staff can establish professional development goals to learn, grow, and thrive.

Power your team’s TIC assessment AND implementation with Online ARTIC.
